Auckland Mayor Len Brown's announced a rate increase of 9.9 per cent. Take notice Tauranga residents – the Auckland amalgamation to a super city was, at the time, predicted to bring reductions in administration etc costs and so the same for rates.
It's patently obvious we, the ratepayers of Tauranga, must resist any proposals to amalgamate with our surrounding councils. None of us would want to be in the same situation as those in the Auckland area.

Resist amalgamation and rate rises

The diversity of Auckland cities needs imply cannot be managed or provided by a single council. The % increase recently announced is only the beginning. People will be rated out of their homes all over Auckland over the next ten years and the same will happen here if amalgamation is introduced in the BOP. Things will be much worse here because not only do we have many differing towns and needs of those towns we have town and country and never the twain shall meet. Think on Tauranga Alastair
