Focus on harbour health

The health of Tauranga Harbour will be the focus of discussions hosted by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council on June 10.

Tauranga Harbour programme manager Laverne Mortlock says the event is open to everyone who registers by Friday, June 5. It will be held at the Tauranga Yacht Club at Sulphur Point Marina.

'It's a chance for people to network and share information about work they're doing to care for land, water, wildlife, cultural values and recreation in and around Te Awanui (Tauranga Harbour),” says Laverne.

The event programme includes presentations about current environmental monitoring and pollution prevention work being led by the local councils and research organisations.

Speakers include Regional Council staff and University of Waikato Chair of Coastal Science Chris Battershill.

'We're also hoping to highlight some examples of action on the ground by iwi and community groups and look at how we can work together better to fill any gaps in knowledge and support,” adds Laverene.
