Speed a factor in three-car crash

Driving too fast for the conditions may have been the cause behind a three-car crash which left many people without power in the lower Kaimai area on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 29, 100m east of Old Kaimai Road, just after 12pm.

Only one person was reported to have suffered minor injuries in the crash which blocked one lane.

Heavy rain in the region caused poor visibility and slick conditions on the road.

While the crash is still being investigated, Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says preliminary indications are that 'speed was too fast for the conditions”.
