Inspirational names for TBC boats

The Tauranga Boys' College Rowing Club is the proud owner of four new boats, each named for an inspirational person.

About 70 people affiliated with the club attended the Saturday morning naming of the four new boats, for which Olympic rower Mahe Drysdale, South Pole explorer Jamie Fitzgerald, former Tauranga Boys' College Principal Norman Morris and old collegian and successful Tauranga businessman Bill Holland.

The four men were present at the naming ceremony for the boats.

The rowing club members performed a haka to begin the naming ceremony where speeches were made.

With the formal proceedings complete, the rowers enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch before an afternoon open day.
