UPDATED 1.14pm: State Highway 33 at Paengaroa has now reopened after a fatal two-car crash this morning.
One person died following the incident, which happened near Partridge Lane at around 10am.

The road was blocked after police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles were found trapped in their cars.
Two fire trucks from Maketu and one from Te Puke rushed to the scene along with police and ambulance services.
A police spokesperson says: "One has died at the scene and the other has leg and chest injuries and is being extracted from the wreck by the Fire Service.
"The Police serious crash unit will be investigating.
NZ Transport Agency earlier advised that light traffic was being diverted around the crash site via Old Coach Road, Roydon Downs Road and Allports Road.

So tragic and unnecessary for so many fatal accidents in this little area. Perhaps the speed limit should be lowered to 70kph in the paengaroa area as it is a fairly major intersection area joining tga/WHA/ROT.

can cause accidents,I don't think so, its lack of concentration that causes accidents, too many people are driving using phones, I see it every day while doing my job, also, I was following a vehicle & the driver was talking to his passenger & looking across plus lots of hand waving etc & weaving all over the road, damn dangerous !!!!!. Drivers need to be aware 100% of the time.

Looks to me like this accident was only just outside the 70km/h zone. Lowering speed limits doesn't necessarily reduce the accident rates. Odd accident here as both vehicles were damaged on their left front areas, suggesting a complete crossover head on accident.
