SH29 reopens after truck fire

UPDATE 2.22pm: State Highway 29 is now reopen to one lane in each direction after a truck fire earlier today.

A Waka Kotahi spokesprson says traffic management remains in place, and to "expect delays".

UPDATE 12.17pm: State Highway 29 at the Kaimai Summit is reopen to one lane, after an earlier truck fire.

"Police thank motorists for their patience," says a police spokesperson.

A person who drove past the fire before the road was closed said "it was very hot".

Police say no one was injured as a result of the fire.

EARLIER: 11.40am: State Highway 29 is closed.

Emergency services are dealing with a truck fire near the Kaimai Sumitt on the highway.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency warns people to expect delays or delay your journey.

A police spokesperson says motorists are advised that State Highway 29 at the Kaimai Summit is currently blocked due to a truck on fire.

"There are no injuries but motorists are asked to delay travel until the matter is resolved."
