Te Puke man in hospital after crash

A 75-year-old Te Puke man is in Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition after a crash on State Highway 2 near Paengaroa earlier today.

Both lanes are now open following the crash involving two utility vehicles near the Whakatane turn-off at about 8.40am. One lane was earlier closed.


A person was cut from a vehicle following a crash on SH2 near Paengaroa.

Maketu Fire Chief Shane Beech says it looks like two vehicles travelling in separate directions T-Boned each other.

He says the driver of the other vehicle involved had to be cut from his 4-wheel-drive.

Two utility vehicles collided on SH2.

The man was removed from the vehicle and Shane says he only suffered a minor cuts.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager, Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says police are investigating the cause of the accident.
