Body found floating in Tauranga harbour

A body has been found floating in Tauranga harbour on Sunday morning.

"Police are making enquiries after a person was located deceased in the water in Tauranga Harbour this morning," says a Police spokesperson.

Emergency services were alerted at 7.50am and the body was recovered by Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard a short time later.

The body was seen floating on the incoming tide between Trinity Wharf towards the jetty on the Tauranga waterfront. High tide is at 11.57am.

"Police are working to establish the circumstances of the person's death and at this stage there is no further information available," says a Police spokesperson.

Tauranga has been packed with thousands of visitors over the weekend with the polo, multisport and Black Clash events, to name a few, being held.
