A body has been found near a Bay of Plenty river.
Police are responding following a report of a person found unresponsive in the water near the mouth of the Whakatane River this evening, says a police spokeseprson.
"Police were called about 5.50pm.
"Upon arrival the person was found to be deceased.
"Initial enquiries are still being made, however at this stage there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances."
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
