Tauranga Intermediate's cricket team is the winner of the National Cricket Cup for 2011.

Tauranga Intermediate School lifted the cup for the primary school boy's division, while Takapuna Intermediate won the primary school girl's NZC shield competition.

The boy's final was keenly contested and Tauranga Intermediate School's captain led by example.

James Oakley batted through the morning against Inglewood Primary to reach 49.

In the afternoon match against Heaton, Oakley took two for seven off his allotted four overs.
Cricket coach Aubrey Jeftha says the boys worked hard and he, along with co-coach Brett Hansen, is proud of the team.

The NZ Cup tournament started at the beginning of the year and Aubrey says it was a great path to walk.

'We played a regional tournament with the Bay of Plenty schools and after that we played a Northern Districts competition in Hamilton which we were successful in.

'After that, we had to decide the top team in the North Island and then we went to the national tournament as well.”

Aubrey says captain Jamie Oakley was 'undoubtedly the man of the tournament”.

'He carried his bat well and he was good with his captaincy and decision making.

As a coach, I am just so proud.”

The New Zealand Cricket Cup is over for the year, but the boys are still playing Saturday cricket.
