Cold case, little evidence

Tauranga police are asking for information to help them solve a 25 year old murder case.

Luana Williams disappeared from her home in Gate Pa in 1986.

Her disappearance was initially investigated as a missing person's case but was later relooked at as a murder case in 1994 – her body has never been found.

Documentary maker Bryan Bruce is investigating the murder of Luana Williams, also pictured here.

Despite claims police have been ordered to re-open the case, Tauranga CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner says they have never closed it.

'Police would welcome any information from anyone who may be able to assist.”

Luana, or Le Verne as she was known to her family, disappeared from her home at night while her boyfriend was out drinking.

He returned in the morning to find a half full glass of sherry and cigarette butt on the coffee table.

Police says Luana's wallet and passport was also at her home, suggesting she had not left the property willingly.

Several people were interviewed during the course of the investigation, with police suspecting a couple of people; however, convictions were able to be made.

The case is also being investigated by documentary maker Bryan Bruce, who says since the airing of The Investigator a couple of months ago, new information has come to light about the murder of Luana Williams.

'After the Luana episode aired, we took over 20 phone calls and just as many emails.”
He says they are working their way through the information provided.

As part of his research into the mysterious disappearance, Bryan made an enquiry under the Official Information Act for the release of Luana's drug files.

She was convicted for selling cannabis in 1983 as part of a police operation code named ‘Kiwifruit'.

Bryan was keen to asses whether her murder could've been drug related.

'We have received some very valuable information, which we are unable to discuss at the moment, but we feel sure there will be some developments in the future.”

Lu was in teh 'wrong scene' then and prior, that is obvious, thre are two areas of interest: was it that the boyfriend was out so as to create an alibi or was it that her past caught up with her? Seems to many things happened then that needed to be sorted out, some of the stories I mean.

OTHER ANSWER?

Maybe just in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people, hooked up in something that became to big. For the families sake it would be good to have found her so as at least the family can put all to rest.

@ Scarlet Pimpinel, I doubt that would hold any water, the wrong place and time is not it. Teh way the Investigator reported it looks more like she got in to deep, knew to much and sadly paid the ultimate price for it.
