A hammer has been used to rob a Tauranga dairy of money and cigarettes in the weekend.

Two men, one carrying a hammer, robbed the Carlisle Street Dairy on Sunday.

They walked into the shop just after 2pm, after being seen waiting in the nearby reserve for a quiet time when there were no other customers in the shop, says dairy owner Amandeep Kaur talking to SunLive today.

'They took money and smokes, mainly in pouches.

'They were teenagers or early twenties. It was the middle of the day when it is often mostly quiet.”

Tauranga Police say they threatened the staff member before fleeing on foot with an unknown amount of cash and cigarettes. No one was injured in the incident.

keep windows clear so passers by can see what is happening inside.Get the cigarette and booze industry to assist financially with security measures if you sell their products. They must take some of the responsibility. The problem is the products they sell - don't sell stuff burglars want to steal.
