Truck fire near Kaimai summit

A truck fire on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Range.

No one has been injured after a truck burst into flames on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Range.

Photos emailed to SunLive show flames leaping from the side of the B-train unit.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Megan Ruru believes one lane is closed and no one was injured.

'We have crews up there squirting lots of water on it now.”

The cause of the first is not yet known.

Meanwhile, police are responding to a serious crash at the intersection of State Highways 1 and 29, near Karapiro.

The road is closed and police are warning motorists in the area to expect delays.

"We ask that people are patient and follow the directions of emergency services at the scene while detours are being set up.

"Updates will be provided as they come to hand."

Look at the picture and you will see it is taken on the uphill section of the hiway - so riding the brakes downhill no way Interesting to look at the 1st picture to see the vehicle that is taking the photo is actually passing the logging truck whilst the truck is indicating trying to move out a lane. She will be right I will slow down to set my phone so I can take this photo with out due regards to the other road users

More like one of the brakes has locked on hence only firein one spot. If they we riding the brakes all the axels would be on fire.......

Yes it looks like the Matamata side apart from the fact the article also says so. It also says its near the summit so my guess its going up as nowhere to pull over on down hill side below summit as its hard up againts whats left of the fence or the hillside...

Just to clarify This happened at the last pull off area just before the Devils Elbow corner on the Matamata side of the Kaimais Definately on the uphill as shown both in the picture and with the burn marks and debris in that area. Check tour facts before trying to be so knowledgable (not)
