UPDATED: A boy reported missing from his Bay of Plenty home has been found.

Police say 18-month-ol Elisaia Kiff has been found "safe and well".

An 18-month-old Bay of Plenty boy is believed to have been kidnapped overnight.

A large scale police search is underway after Elisaia Kiff went missing from his Rotorua home.

On Facebook this morning, James Kiff posted that his home was broken into last night and 'the only thing they took was my son”.

'He was taken from my home when he was sleeping in his bed between 10.15pm and 2am. This is not a joke and any info would be appreciated,” reads the post.

A police spokesperson confirmed to SunLive this morning that an 18-month-old child was missing.

'Police staff have done an initial search of the house and surrounds, and are about to commence a wider search.”

People with information about the missing boy are asked to contact Rotorua Police Station on 07 349 9400.
