Tony picks up SOE job

Bay of Plenty MP Tony Ryall is picking up a third ministerial portfolio with Simon Power stepping down from the State Owned Enterprises portfolio.

Prime Minister John Key says the portfolio handover is logical at this time.

Bay of Plenty MP Tony Ryall.

'He approached me yesterday indicating that because of his impending retirement from Parliament, this change should be made.

'The change is being made because of Mr Power's concern that if he remained in the portfolio there could be a perception of a conflict of interest as he made the transition to the commercial world after the election.

'I want to place on record my thanks for Mr Power's work in the SOEs portfolio where he has made a big contribution, including work on the development of the government's proposed mixed ownership model.”

This is Tony's third portfolio, with him already Health Minister and in charge of State Services.

So that's what he's up to. Which SOE is Simon Power going to head up after the election, eh? With a name like his surely it must be Electricity Corporation or one of the energy companies?
