Tauranga racer wins in Auckland

Tauranga RS:X Olympic Windsurfing class rider, teenager Sven Pedersen, is the winner of the Sail Auckland regatta.

Sailing with the senior women, who are vying for the one 2012 Olympic New Zealand position, Sven was first youth in all nine races, winning the last ‘medal' race which is worth double points, by over a minute to take the gold.

Sven Pedersen is hoping to continue his gold medal winning form in Auckland as he eyes up the Youth Worlds in Croatia in July.

He came fourth overall behind the top woman with 34 points, while the next youth was 10th with 80 points.

This gives him a major points advantage going into the other qualifying regatta in 10 days time.

This sets him in good stead for selection for the Youth Worlds in Croatia in July.

His best races at the weekend were two seconds behind Kate Ellingham, who is ranked 10th in the world.
