State Highway One is closed due to a crash between two trucks this morning.
The two trucks collided shortly before 2am, just North of Mangaweka, completely blocking the road.
As a result of the crash, the State Highway has been closed, as a crane will be required to remove the wreckage from the road. One of the trucks was carrying a quantity of solvent, which has spilled on to the road. The fire service hazardous chemicals unit is attempting clear the solvent from the road - as well as the diesel which leaked from the trucks.
The road is expected to be closed until approximately midday to allow time for the clean-up work to progress.
Diversions are in place through Toe Toe Road, however this route may be unsuitable for some heavy vehicles.
Motorists may wish to delay their travel through this area or consider travelling via SH3 and 4 (Whanganui and Raetihi) to avoid delays on State Highway One.
The occupants of the trucks received minor injuries.
