Tim’s gear found

Kayaker Tim Taylor's missing property is located and Oamaru police have a person in custody in relation to its theft.

Tim's helmet camera containing the photographic record of the kayak voyage from Tauranga to South Canterbury, his Spot tracker, paddling clothes and some underwear were stolen while he camped at All Day Bay last weekend.

Tim Taylor.

Tim has since paddled on to Dunedin where he remains today, kept ashore by high winds and heavy seas.

His missing equipment has been replaced by sponsors, and Tim's not sure what happens now. He's expecting to get his old gear returned from Oamaru today.

'The other big thing is a whole bunch of people in Oamaru, including the Lions, they have got together and raised over a thousand dollars,” says Tim.

'They're intending it to help replace this equipment.

'I'm not sure what's going to happen with that now that I've got my gear back.”

Tim's preference is for the money to be donated to Search and Rescue or the Coastguard.

He's hoping to resume paddling south today, with the Clutha River his next planned stop.

'Yesterday there were heavy swells and high winds,” says Tim.

'Today it's been quite calm but it's still got like, a four metre swell running. I have to wait for that to try and pass through a bit.

'Even the next four days the forecast is not very good, I'm going to have to try and push through it a wee bit.”
