No touch tolls for TEL

The tolling system planned for the Tauranga Eastern Link highway does away with a requirement for toll booths.

See videos of the TEL project below; the first a mapping of the route's path and the second, an explanation of how the tolling will work.

Every vehicle using the highway will be photographed front and rear from an overhead gantry sited between the Kaituna Bridge and the proposed Rangiuru business park.

The vehicles will be scanned for length and tolls billed accordingly.

The payment of $2 for cars and $5 for heavy trucks can be paid over the internet.

Traffic can be scanned for tolls at any speed, and there is no need to slow down.

What about the people who don't or can't deal with internet? Guess there'll be the inevitable paper trail?
