Exercise in peace – it might sound like a contradiction, but members of the Bay of Plenty Coast Rowing Club's masters squad say they have the answer.
On Sunday September 29 the club is holding have-a-go sessions on the Wairoa River from 3pm, offering anyone interested a chance to experience rowing for themselves.
A Sport Bay of Plenty recreation advisor recently tried out the sport herself and learnt that it was a great sport to be involved in.
Among the sports benefits she learnt about are the opportunity it offers for stress relief in a scenic setting, that it's much easier on the body than many sports and being a member of a crew was a major motivator.
Masters rowing caters for all ages, with members ranging from 28 to 68, and also has a strong social aspect.
The ‘have a go' day is being run as part of Sport Bay of Plenty's Play in the Bay sports promotion calendar. For details on other activities on offer go to www.sportbop.co.nz/playinthebay
