Bird pilots plane into fence

Emergency services are responding to calls of a plane entangled in a fence at the end of a runway at Matamata Airfield.

Matamata firefighters and police were called to the southern end of the Matamata Aerodrome runway around 1.30pm after the plane failed to take off.

A Northern Fire Communications spokesperson says the sole pilot of the plane is believed to be uninjured.

'The plane ran off the end of the runway after a bird strike. It just crashed and is just a little bit tangled in the fence.”

It is unknown what kind of plane it is at this stage.
