Children from 20 schools around the city have participated in a unique version of the hugely popular Amazing Race show this week.

Around 250 children tested their problem solving, navigational and team building skills in a race around Te Puna's Quarry Park yesterday.

Te Puke Intermediate students take part in the Amazing Race through Te Puna Quarry Park.

The day, run in conjunction with Sport Bay of Plenty, is a way to install team building skills in a fun and energetic way.

Organiser Dale Parekowhai says students were given a passport loaded with questions about different features of the park including statues and artworks.

'This is the fourth time we have run it with Sport Bay of Plenty. Each year it's got bigger and each year we use a different space.

'Last year was at the domain and the year before was Mount Maunganui beach. This year is Te Puna and it's beautiful. We couldn't have chosen a more beautiful day.”
Dale says students are given information in plastic bags and they have to answer questions, solve problems, take photos and return to a checkpoint in a certain time.

'It's all about team work and some teams find their quieter ones who normally wouldn't get involved start to take over.”

At the end of the even an overall winner is awarded and spot prizes were handed out.
