On your bike!

Summer is the perfect time for everyone to discover the joy of cycling and the Sport Bay of Plenty's February Bike Month offers activities for all ages.

Sport BOP recreation advisor Nicki Scott says it is a great time of year to dust off your bike and rediscover the joy of cycling with almost 30 events on over February.

She is encouraging everyone to make the most of the balmy days and get involved in activities that range from mountain bike rides, family rides and discovering the city's off-road pathways.

'We have a great programme with something for everyone from little kids up, with a range of fun and competitive events.”

Nicki says nothing beats cycling for a fun and healthy activity for the whole family and next month there are no excuses with the return of the Play in the Bay's Bike Month.

Fun Tykes on Trikes event for pre-schoolers are being held in Katikati (Moore Park, February 19 from 10am) and Tauranga (Memorial Park, February 21 from 10am). Youngsters can have fun racing around a track of obstacles, and win prizes for the best decorated bikes.

Everyone will be encouraged to leave the car at home on February 13 for Go By Bike Day, - with prizes and refreshments on offer at pit stops around town.
