Drugs bust in Maketu

A large scale police drugs bust was executed on a series of properties in Maketu and Te Puke this morning with two people arrested and property seized.

A man and a woman have been arrested after six drugs warrants were executed at a cluster of properties on Maketu Road near the intersection of Spencer Avenue.

Police also raided two houses in Te Puke.

Police investigate a property in Maketu.

A Tauranga resident travelling through Maketu reports about 20 police cars including non-marked and dog squad cars parked on the side of Maketu Road from 9am.

'As you come into Maketu there were about 20 cars as you come in from Te Puke.”

The caller says there are no armed police or fire appliances visible but there is a dog squad.

'The police were going from one side of the road to another - there were quite a few houses involved.”

Bay of Plenty Police communications manager Kim Perks confirmed police executed a total of eight drug warrants today.

She says the joint operation by Western Bay of Plenty and Rotorua Police is part of an ongoing operation so further details cannot be confirmed at this time.

Kim does say armed police were not involved in the operation this morning.

A reporter at the scene says Rowe motors are towing a vehicle from the property next to the Whakaue Marae.

A V-Rod Harley Davidson is also belted onto a trailer outside a property to be towed.

At this stage police cannot confirm who lives in the properties but say further information will be available by the end of the day.

Hey- I am very happy for my taxpayer dollar to be used in the way our great Police Force sees fit.I would not do their job for QUIDS !!! they deal with the lowest of the low day in and day out with little thanks. I am very appreciative of the way they try and make like safer for the vast majority of we lawabiding citizens.

Well 'watever' I dont think the confiscation of 'proceeds of crime' is walking away with nothing & I'll pay MORE tax for our Police Force to do it again every day if it stops the scourge of 'p'thats ruining lives.By the way you seem to be close to the action perhaps you could tell us just how many of the people in those properties are in legal full time work and NOT living off the hard done by taxpayers? I can also see you have a good education by your excellent spelling!
