While the winter weather produced a mixed bag this week, two very successful meatpack tournaments were held, as well as the normal competitions.

WAIKATO VETS'S MIXED MEATPACK TOURNAMENT, and the second round of the Coromandel Shield was held at Waihi on Monday (20th), on a fine day that was extremely cold with a biting S/E wind.

A great field from the Thames Valley, Waikato, Whangamata, and Omokoroa, joined the Waihi Vets to make a field of 101 player's.

The result of the men's nett competition was won by Peter Wright (Waihi) who blitzed the field by 7 shots with a fine 65 nett.

The ladies best nett was won by Judy Saunders (Waihi) with a very good 74 in the cold conditions. In the Stableford results Michael Bonicci, won on a countback from Rodger Bagshaw, and Bruce Rutter, (all Waihi) with 36 points.

Next was Peter Dent (Paeroa) 35, ahead of Kerry Lewis, and Francis Gascoigne (both Waihi), and Barry Laurence (Tahuna) with 34 points.

In the Coromandel shield round, Paeroa won the day, with Tahuna second, one shot ahead of Waihi.

NINE HOLE: The competition this week was nett medal, and the winner of division one ladies was Marie Rickard with nett 33, comfortably ahead of Lorraine Meyer (36).

Third was Glen Bennett with 38. In division2, Jenni Mora led the field with 31 nett, followed by Lynda Thomson (33), and Elaine Goodwin and Eleanor Koedyk both on 37.

HUME MONTHLY MEATPACK TOURNAMENT: On Thursday the June tournament was contested on a clear crisp, ideal winter's day. A total of 63 players entered, and the overall Gross winner was Murray Fraser with 74, to get his revenge on Andy Roche this time.

The Nett winner was Club Manager, David Campbell with a fine 69, while Greg Rosevear was the Stableford victor with 37 points.

In the senior division, Carol Leary was first with 37, followed by Rob Page (36), then Graeme Parkinson, Terry Gerbich, and Michelle Libby all on 35. In division 2, Alex Morton was first with 37, followed by the steady John Saunders (36). Next were Pete Rowe, and Peter Wright on 33.

SATURDAY LADIES: Following a wet night, and poor forecast only three ladies contest the haggle. First was Kaylene Croker with a nett 71, followed by Martine Millicich (73), and Niria Gerbich (79).

SATURDAY MEN: Like the ladies there was a reduced field for the morning haggle, but the damp conditions seemed to suit Jim Powell as he recorded 36 points for the second week in a row! Next was Tim Parish, and Allen Smith, both with 35, with Jim Evans next on 34.

In the afternoon haggle the improving weather saw a good size field enter the contest, which included a number of long weekend visitors. The winner was Bryan Smith (Walton) with 40 points, and in second was Mark Hume (who seems to have a hot vein of form at the moment) with 38. Next were Terry Gerbich, and Alex Teesdale, both with 37, then Mark Tomsett and Trevor Combes on 36.
