One arrested after restaurant stabbing

UPDATE 8.30AM: One person has been charged following a serious incident at a Cambridge restaurant on Campbell Street last night.

A 31-year-old person is due to appear in the Hamilton District Court today charged with three counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

Three victims remain in Waikato Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are not looking for anybody else in relation to the matter, says Waikato West Area Commander Inspector Will Loughrin.

"What we know at this time is that the alleged offender was known to one of the victims,"

"Police will ensure support is provided to those who were present in the restaurant at the time.

"This was an incredibly traumatic event for those either dining or working at the restaurant and we'll ensure they receive any support required.

"A scene examination will continue today and the community will notice an increased Police presence in the area as we continue with our enquiries."

EARLIER:

Three people have been seriously injured following a stabbing overnight.

At 8.45pm, emergency services were called to a commercial premises on Campbell Street in Leamington, Cambridge, following a report of a grievous assault.

Upon arrival, police located three people with serious stab-related injuries, says a police spokesperson.

"Police are speaking with a man who is assisting with our enquiries."

Campbell Street was closed between Burns Street and Shakespeare Street overnight while a scene examination takes place.

"The local community will notice an increased police presence in the area over the coming days while staff make enquiries in the area.

"We are in the early stages of our investigation and enquiries remain ongoing into the circumstances.

"However, we believe this is an isolated incident."
