Power outage planned for Coromandel

Contractors will be replacing overhead poles and cross-arms on the line between Coromandel and Whitianga.

A power outage is being planned for Coromandel town next month.

Powerco says it will be conducting a planned electricity outage affecting the town and immediate surrounds on May 11.

The outage is planned for 8.30am to 3.30pm.

During the outage, Powerco's contractors Downer and Northpower will be replacing overhead poles and cross-arms on the line between Coromandel and Whitianga.

This essential work ensures electricity supply in the area will be reliable and resilient well into the future.

Customer and communications strategy manager Oliver Vincent acknowledges that it's never convenient to have an outage.

'We know outages - particularly lengthy ones like this - are never convenient. We've been working with the community to identify a day that will have minimal impact, and we wanted to give everyone plenty of notice so they can prepare. We'd like to thank all our customers in Coromandel for their patience while we complete this essential work.”

Powerco advises customers that they will receive notification from their retailer (the company they pay your power bill to) if they'll be affected by the outage.

Customers can also search for their address on Powerco's planned outages page here: powerco.co.nz/planned-outage

Schools, medical centres and the Coromandel CBD will remain on, and will not be impacted by the outage.

In the event of bad weather the outage will be postponed until Wednesday, May 18.
