Power has been cut to most of the Coromandel region after plastic wrap became tangled in a transmission line.
Transpower says to remove the plastic safely, it needs to turn off the power.
"This is a hazard that could cause a fire or unexpected electricity outage," it says.
The power will be off from 10am until 1pm this afternoon in the Matatoki, Thames, Whitianga, Tairua, Kerepehi and Coromandel areas.
