A man is in Tauranga Hospital with facial injuries after being assaulted earlier this morning.

A police spokesperson says they were notified by ambulance just after 6am, that a man had been located on Fraser Street with facial injuries.

'The man has been transported to hospital and police have been checking the surrounding area to try and locate the offender/s.

'That's all we have at this stage.”

A SunLive reader who emailed in a photo this morning, says it looks like police are using a dog to track through the bush below the school, beside the estuary, opposite Fraser Cove.

People with information about the assault can contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively, information can also be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line or non-emergency information can be given to the police's 105 number.
