A big mess

Resealing on State Highway 2 between Kauri Point and Woodland roads last Sunday, December 11, caused a big headache for a lot of travellers. Time delays, cracked windscreens, stone chips, stones lodged in brake pads and stuck in wheel arches are just some of the many complaints that have been posted on Katikati Facebook pages. I understand heat helps to seal the stones to the road better, and wet weather causes pot holes to emerge, but on such a super hot day was it necessary? Or are these companies frantically trying to spend their budget before they lose it? And why stop/start just before all the obvious pot holes that are already there? Maybe the contractors should use their own hefty rollers to compress the new seal instead of using us to do their job!

However, on a positive note, I understand NZTA is being very helpful to anyone who calls and lets them know what damage has been done to their vehicle. Be patient, be safe, remember it’s better to be late than not get there at all. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season.

C Wheelan, Katikati.
