Mount and Greerton go back to back

For the second week in a row, a Greerton batsman scored a rare as hen's teeth Twenty 20 century, following in the footsteps of Greerton master blaster Brett Hampton the previous Saturday.

Greerton Sikh XI, Lovely Sandhu, blasted 110 runs against Tauranga Boys' College in the opening round of the WBOPCA T20 competition, on Saturday (13 October 2018).

The pool two encounter, saw the Greerton Indian side post 165/6 and then go on to victory when they bowled the Tauranga students out for 97. LS Bhatti fired his usual bullets to grab three wickets at a cost of just four runs.

The other opening pool two match saw a half century from Ben Jensen help Cadets to 145/7 in their match-up with Katikati, before restricting team from the Western Bay extremities to 93 for the loss of six wickets.

The first pool one match was a relatively low scoring affair, with Aquinas College posting 83/7. Louis Robinson top scored with 34 runs.

Mount Maunganui comfortably chased down the target with six wickets in hand, with Logan Carr leading the charge with an unbeaten 41.

In another early game, where ball dominated bat, Te Puke defeated R&A Sangha. The Te Puke second eleven reached 86/6 and then led by Amrit Sandhu who took four wickets, restricted the opposition to 74/8.

Mount Maunganui and the Greerton Sikh XI, both knuckled down in the late afternoon double-headers to pick up back to back victories.

Greerton batted first against Mount Maunganui and were bowled out for 78.

Nathan Walker was in grand form with the ball taking four bowling scalps at little cost. Led by a crisp 39 runs from Logan Carr, the Mount cruised to a seven wicket win.

Lovely Sandhu, continued on from his round one ton to blast a quick-fire 80, in his side big total of 188/8 against the Singh CC.

The Singh side were in contention for much of the encounter, with their top order hitting out, but were restricted to 148 with seven wickets in hand.

Other round two winners were R&A Sangha who got past Aquinas College and Tauranga Boys' College who chased down a 90 run target set by Katikati.
