Locally owned and operated news publisher Sun Media has won several awards at this year's New Zealand Community Newspaper Association Awards, held in Rotorua.
The awards recognise excellence in community news publishing in the preceding year.
The Weekend Sun, the Western Bay of Plenty's favourite weekend paper, received runner up in the Frank Veale Memorial Award for the Most Improved Newspaper, while SunLive – your source for local breaking news – won Best Website.
Weekend Sun assistant editor Cayla-Fay Euinton was recognised as a runner up for Best Junior Feature/Lifestyle Journalist, with the judge remarking she is ‘an accomplished storyteller'.
Weekend Sun photographer Bruce Barnard also received a runner up award for Best Feature/Lifestyle Photographer, with the judge liking the ‘overall look with different angles taken' of his photo entry.
Coast & Country, Sun Media's rural-focused publication, was also a runner up for Best All Round Newspaper, with journalist Elaine Fisher receiving runner up for Best Senior Feature/Lifestyle Journalist.
Sun Media directors Claire and Brian Rogers say they're 'extremely proud' to win best website again.
"It's good to see positive comments around the paper, too. We'd like to thank our staff, and of course our readers, without whom we wouldn't be where we are."

From the first day of you publishing the Weekend Sun, even if there was a little hitch in arrival for delivery, it has been a joy to watch you go from strength to strength. Your staff have always appeared to be there for you when they are needed. Sunlive and Weekend Sun are a breath of fresh air in this day and age. Keep it up.

Well done Sun Media....your team work very hard at getting the news to us as quick as possible...your efforts are appreciated by many....did Rogers Rabbits win an award???? he should have for keeping us entertained with his ramblings each week.
