The Bay of Plenty Development team will enter the last three rounds of the ND Development competition in second equal place behind competition leaders Waikato Valley.

A win over archrivals Hamilton, which was their first win over the Waikato side since February 2010, and a loss to Waikato Valley, has the Bay of Plenty side still well in contention for the Basil McBurney Trophy.

On Saturday evening, after a local round of Baywide club cricket, the Bay boys will undertake the long drive to Gisborne to square off with Poverty Bay on Sunday.

The Hamilton victory will be long remembered by Tauranga Boys' College all-rounder Dominic Crombie, who grabbed a hat-trick and added a half-century for good measure.

Bay of Plenty batted first, with Dominic leading the way with an unbeaten 53, his side posting a solid target after reaching 206 for the loss of six wickets. In a dramatic finish, where Bay of Plenty sneaked home by just two runs, the Tauranga Boys' bowler took a rare as hens' teeth hat-trick.

The Poverty Bay game sees the return to the Bay of Plenty Second XI of one of the form bowlers of the Baywide cricket competition. Te Puke quick Christian MacDonald has taken 24 wickets in premier club cricket this season and is also a more than handy middle order batsman.

Tauranga Boys' College wicket keeper Ben Pomare has outstanding form behind the stumps both in club and representative cricket. At the ND Senior Secondary tournament held in Gisborne in December, the Tauranga Boys' student held five catches and effected three stumpings.
