Oil spill warning on SH29 after crash

UPDATED 11.16PM: Drivers using State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Range are urged to take extra care and slow down due to an oil spill on the road – just down from the summit on the Matamata side.

The route's down to one lane each way while contractors clean up oil that has reportedly spread up to 300 metres, says police.

"The spill happened after a crash involving a ute and a car, to which emergency services were called at 10.11am.

"There have been three other minor crashes since but no injuries reported."

Motorists are being warned to expect delays as emerency services deal with a two vehicle crash on the Kaimai Summit.

A SunLive reader emailed in to say two vehicles, a van and a ute, have crashed blocking one lane of State Highway 29.

"Police and fire are at the scene now.

"The road is down to one lane on the Hamilton side following a head-on accident."

POINTLESS putting sand on it, a load of dry sawdust would soak it up, BETTER, but what would i know, that hill is another trap and always will be,my thoughts is it needed to be widened when built, and terraced back,anyway my two pennies worth for what its worth, Sunlive is a WINNER and one the Best news,AWESOME,Thankyou,10-4 out, phew.
