Mount roads closed until the week’s end

Various closures around Mount Maunganui will stay in place until Saturday.

Road closures established at streets around Mount Maunganui will continue until this Saturday.

Tauranga City Council group communications advisor Viktoria Ernes says the blockages, which were established at the end of December, will remain in place for the rest of the week.

'Marine Parade, between Adams and Pacific Avenues, will be closed each night between the hours of 8pm and 6am until 6 January 2018.

'The intersections of Commons Avenue and Marine Parade, as well as Grace Avenue, will be closed to vehicle traffic during the day and night as in previous years.

'Access through the closed area is restricted to residents only.”

She says the blockages are beneficial in helping to reduce traffic flow in the area.

'Closing the intersections of Commons Avenue and Grace Avenue has safety and operational benefits by reducing turning movements into and out of Marine Parade over the busy two week holiday period, with high numbers of pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders and cars using Marine Parade.

'The closure of these intersections also supports the night time closure of Marine Parade and makes the night time closure more efficient to install and operate.”

Why don't they just make it one way only. Make it start from the mall and make it go around clock wise, down the Mall,Adams ave, along marine parade and have it finish at Pacific ave. This would create more parking and cars or buses coming out would only have to look one way. Why close Marine parade down at 8pm should be more like 10pm.
