Two people are in Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving three cars on State Highway 33, near Paengaroa.
A DHB spokesperson says a 40-year-old Te Puke man is in a ‘serious but stable' condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
A 29-year-old Papamoa woman is also in a stable condition.
The crash occurred at around 9.45pm on Saturday night, with police reporting ‘at least' 12 people injured.
A St John spokesperson told SunLive this morning that apart from the two patients transported to Tauranga Hospital, those with minor injuries were treated at the scene.
The highway was closed at the scene of the crash for several hours, as both lanes were blocked.
It reopened at around 2.30am this morning.
