Mount Maunganui police staff could be working out of new premises by mid-late December.

Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander Inspector Clifford Paxton, who confirmed the move to staff earlier this week, says the new premises are being sought following ongoing water tightness issues with the existing building.

'We have been working closely with Police National Headquarters for the best option for our staff and the public, to maintain our operational capability and continued physical presence within the community.

'While there is no immediate need to vacate the building, the relocation is a solution which meets our service delivery requirements for the short-medium term future.

"An initial lease term of three years has been negotiated on a building located on the corner of Hull Road and Tukorako Drive in Mount Maunganui and we will relocate our policing operation over the next few months.”

The number of staff working from the new premises, phone contact details and front counter hours, remain unchanged.

The Police National Property Group is working with local staff on the fit out design for the new facility, ensuring it is fit for purpose for those who work within, from and visit.

Moving dates will be publically communicated in due course.

Cultural Centre/I-Site Option?

Posted on 20-09-2017 11:38 | By Murray.Guy

Okay, there are issues with the building, but not surmountable. The location is likely NOT ideal for a police station (especially peak holiday periods). This an opportunity to secure a Police Station that will be located to service the growing needs of the city, perhaps further towards Te Puke? Why does it still exist only a 5 minute drive to the new headquarters? Is this an opportunity for the building to be 'future proofed' and reconfigured to suit the needs of a 'Cultural and I-Site' centre with Tourism BOP and the City Council out of the picture (which they have NO business being in). Seems to me it is PAST TIME that TBOP were told to focus on their 'core business', to focus on promoting our region and supporting those in the private sector versus their present competing with. An opportunity awaits! $5 million saved!

It'll be interesting to see what happens with this bit of land...I wonder who owns it and if they have further plans. "Water tightness issues" seems to be the "go to" excuse around these days.

If you need to be gone in a hurry...

Just another way of wasting our tax and rates money. Why suddenly has this come about leaks do not appear over night. Just another excuse. TCC spending millions on new offices in the CBD unnecessary to require such a flash building. If a problem with mount police station why not combine and use new offices in Tauranga they suppose to patrol beat in cars or go back to walking up main street might actually catch some of these shoplifters.

Allo allo wots going on ere?
