Crash closes section of SH2

UPDATED 3.55PM: NZTA reports both lanes of the road are now open.

A police spokesperson says three other people received minor injuries in the crash, in addition to one person who was seriously injured.


A crash involving multiple vehicles has closed the Karangahake Gorge this afternoon.

A police spokesperson says the incident occurred between Waihi and Paeroa just before 1pm, and involved four vehicles.

“One person is in a serious condition, and the Westpac rescue helicopter has been deployed,” she says.

At least two tow trucks are reported to be heading to the crash site, along with traffic management.

The road is closed in both directions.

why am i not surprised about this crash. too many motorists tailgating and driving far too fast through here. still trying to drive at 100kph
