Evasive action rolls truck on SH2

A truck driver is in Tauranga Hospital and motorists travelling on State Highway 2 between Te Maunga and Papamoa are delayed after two trucks collided at about 7.45am.

Police Sergeant Lester Polglase says the collision occurred when the driver of a white truck, pictured below, took evasive action in busy traffic to avoid rear ending another vehicle.

This truck ended up on its side inside the Tauranga Eastern Link work site after its driver took evasive action.

The white truck was travelling towards Tauranga, when its driver braked hard and swerved to the right amdist a traffic queue formed through the work site of the Tauranga Eastern Link project about 1km from Baypark.

In swerving, Lester says the white truck has hit the front left of a green truck which was heading towards Te Puke.

The white truck has then rolled onto its side.

The driver of the green truck was taken to hospital by St John ambulance.

The two trucks involved in the crash are within the work site and so are not adding any extra delay to motorists other than what they normally would have experienced there owing to the roadworks.

Police say this truck was collected by another which was taking evasive action.

Rubber Necking

There were delays caused by people that just wished to rubberneck. I was in that traffic and it took 1/2 an hour to get to the site from Domain Road roundabout. Once past the site the traffic sped up to normal speeds. People should just get on with what they are meant to be doing, (Driving) and not slowing down to take a look. There was no reason for the holdup as neither truck was on the road.
