People will gather in Christchurch today to witness the unveiling of the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial.
At 12pm, the memorial - Start at the 270kg pounamu stone on Oxford Tce just downstream from Christchurch Hospital on the Avon River - will be unveiled between the Montreal Street Bridge and Durham Street, in Christchurch.
The public event will combine the Dedication of the Memorial and February 22 Civic Commemoration Service.
A commemoration page set up to mark the event states; 'we near the sixth anniversary of the devastating February 22, 2011, earthquake, share in remembering, and accept our thanks for all the help and love that came Canterbury's way from New Zealand and around the world.
