What’s On? Books and Kitties

Good morning SunLive readers, welcome to Saturday – you made it! Hopefully it'll be a cracker of a start to your weekend.

Love to get lost in a good book or the soothing purr of a cat? Then check out the New Zealand Red Cross Annual Book Fair at the Historic Village or The Patches and Pointed Cat Show at the Katikati Memorial Hall which are just two of many events and activities taking place today.

File Photo.

Returning for another year, the Red Cross Annual Book Fair will see thousands and thousands of books, magazines, CDs, puzzle and more up for sale.

And while you'll score yourself a good read at a bargain price, all money raised during the fair will be returned to the local community to support humanitarian services and educational programs. Nice.

The book fair is in the Historic Village Hall on 17th Avenue, from 9am to 5pm.

The patches and Pointed cat show is at Katikati War Hall, Main Rd, on Saturday, September 2, from 10.30am-3.30pm. The supreme final winner will be announced at 3pm.

While all you feline lovers out there won't want to miss the Patches and Pointed cat show taking place in Katikati today.

It is a six-ring show where every cat is judged by each of the six judges in categories such as own breed, colour and sex. And at the end of a complex process in which many ribbons are won, each of the six judges choose their best cat of all the best cats at the show.

Breeders from as far afield as Wellington, Palmerston North and Auckland will be in town with more than 100 well coifed cats with long coats, standard coats, in-between coats, flash cats, exotic cats and even the local neighbour moggy will be there.

Patches and Pointed cat show is at Katikati War Hall, Main Rd, on Saturday, September 2, from 10.30am-3.30pm. The supreme final winner will be announced at 3pm.
