Beautiful You by Suzanne Edmonds |
Each week, beauty enthusiast Suzanne Edmonds explores the best ways to take care of ourselves so that we love the skin we’re in.
It’s well known that massage helps with relaxation and de-stressing.
The idea of lying down for an hour or so, while a skilled massage therapist works out the stresses of the day, sounds like divine bliss to those of us leading busy, modern lives. And it is!
But the benefits of massage run so much deeper than helping us relax and de-stress. It can be an important tool in our overall quest for general health and wellbeing.
A monthly massage - or one more regular if time and resources allow – will bring about health benefits, skeletal benefits, and a much improved sense of general wellbeing.
Expect to see improvements in stress levels, relaxation, sleep, and overall health. Massage can even help combat depression.
A massage that is a little deeper in intensity helps the body recover from accumulated stress. This happens when the body has absorbed stress and planted it firmly somewhere in the body.
An experienced therapist has the ability to start kneading the muscle gently, slowly applying more depth. By working with the patient with breathing techniques, the therapist helps the body allow a slightly deeper massage - releasing the muscles, and reprogramming the body’s holding pattern. This will also remove any emotional holding patterns that the body has developed.
It will also improve the lymphatic system by allowing the toxins to shift and be eliminated
Hydration is extremely important after a massage. Make sure you drink at least three glasses of water at the conclusion of the massage. This will help your skin, as it is the largest organ of the body. It also assists detoxification with lymph drainage, and bowel care.
Massage can also be an effective tool to those suffering with inflammation. It helps relieve inflammation by bringing blood to the area to help with the recovery process. Once again, plenty of water is very important in this process.
My belief is that massage in the western countries is very under-rated, and offers overall health benefits.
Make an investment in your future well-being and have a regular massage - you certainly will notice the difference in a very short time.
