Papamoa lifeguards win medal haul

With only 12 members in the squad for the 2009 NZ Surf Life Saving Pool Champs held in Wellington last weekend, Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club’s seven medal haul is a promising sign for the upcoming season.
Georgia Aitken dominated the under 11 year women’s events, winning gold in the 50 metre brick carry event, gold in the 50 metre swim with fins and silver in the 50 metre swim with obstacles.

Rebecca Parkes took silver in the under 16 women’s 50 metre swim with fins event, with Natalie Peat winning bronze alongside her. 

Natalie Peat, Jordyn Gregory, Rebecca Parkes and Michaela Aitken receive silver in the under 16 girls' 4x50m medley relay.

The two then joined team mates Jordyn Gregory and Michaela Aitken to win gold in the under 16 women’s 4x50 metre obstacle relay, plus silver in the under 16 women’s 4x 50 metre medley relay. 
Bitter weather throughout the North Island had no effect on the comfort of indoor facilities for this particular event.
Lifeguards will soon be braving chillier conditions as they prepare to start patrolling local beaches this month.
