Te Puna man behind bars

A Te Puna man who sparked an armed offenders call out yesterday will remain behind bars until his next appearance in court.

Quintin Casino Borell appeared in Tauranga District Court this afternoon charged with three counts of threatening to kill, one count of reckless driving, failing to stop for red and blue lights and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has entered not guilty pleas on all of the charges.

Borell was arrested at a Greerton address yesterday afternoon following a four-hour armed police manhunt which started in Te Puna.

Police cordoned off streets in Te Puna and Merivale following a domestic violence incident at a Wairoa Pa Road address.

Police were called to the address just after 8am after reports of a man armed with a knife attempting to force his way into a property.

The armed offenders' squad was called because there was mention of a weapon.

Following a search, which saw vehicles stopped and checked in Te Puna, Borell was arrested and taken into police custody.

He appeared in court today where he applied for bail through lawyer David Bates.

However, Judge Paul Geoghegan declined the bail application and remanded Borell in custody until Monday to allow time for a suitable bail address to be sought.

A case review hearing has also been scheduled for July 21.
