Crash victim still critical

Tauranga Police investigating a head-on crash which left a man in critical condition are waiting to see if the victim makes a full recovery.

The 33-year-old passenger of a Toyota vehicle suffered multiple head, chest, torso, pelvic and leg injuries when the Toyota and a Holden vehicle crashed on State Highway 33, near Paengaroa, on April 27.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the police investigation is still in its early stages.

'We are waiting to see if the passenger makes a full recovery.”

The 27-year-old driver of the Toyota suffered minor leg injuries in the crash and the 18-year-old female driver of the Holden vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The crash saw the stretch of highway closed for about 3.5 hours as emergency services dealt with the crash.

The police serious crash unit attended the crash scene and investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash.
