A taxi driver was robbed in Merivale in January.

At about 11.30pm on Monday, January 12, the taxi driver picked up two passengers on Henderson Crescent.

Police say he travelled along Alverstoke Road and into Fraser Street before the front seat passenger told him to pull over.

It was at this point that the back seat passenger pulled a knife and held it to the victim's throat before demanding money.

The victim handed over some money before managing to escape the taxi unharmed, say police.

A witness saw the offenders travel back down Alverstock Road.

The offender in the front seat was described as male, approximately 20-years-old with a dark complexion. He was wearing a hat and black hoodie with the words ‘Los Angeles Kings' on the front.

The offender in the back seat was also described as male, with a dark complexion and approximately 20-years-old. He was wearing a light coloured hoodie with the word ‘Higher' on the front.

Since the crime aired, police have received a couple of 'useful” calls.

'One man has now been arrested and appeared in court this morning,” says a statement on the Bay of Plenty Police website.

'We are still working to identify a second man involved in the robbery.”
