Road open after truck crash

UPDATED 2.24PM: State Highway 36, between Tauranga and Rotorua is now open after a truck carrying containers rolled earlier this morning.

Police had put diversions in place as they removed the wreckage of the truck from the road.

The driver of the truck was trapped inside the cab, which had been crushed in the crash.

The 54-year-old Tauranga man was taken to Rotorua Hospital with minor injuries.

A crane had been brought in to remove the truck from the crash scene and the road is now open.

The commercial investigation unit and the police serious crash unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

Diversions are in place following a truck crash on State Highway 36 this morning.

A truck has rolled on the Tauranga Direct Road causing delays.

A truck carrying shipping containers crashed and rolled into a bank at about 10.15am.

The driver was trapped in the cab and was cut free by the fire service.

Details of injuries are not yet known.

Traffic is being diverted via Jacksons Road.

The police Commercial Vehicle Investigation unit and serious crash unit are investigating.

It's understood the cab of the truck had been crushed after the vehicle tipped over into a bank.
