No bail for stabbing accused

Interim name suppression has been granted to the man accused of stabbing a 41-year-old male at a Belk Road property early on Sunday morning.

He has been remanded in custody until Friday after facing a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in Tauranga District Court this afternoon.

The victim remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital after the incident, which happened at around 4.40am.

His lawyer, Tony Balme, sought bail for the 32-year-old, but Tauranga District Court Judge Robert Wolff ruled the proposed bail address was too close to the scene address where police are continuing their examination.

Police opposed bail, and while interim name suppression was granted, this will be revisited on Friday when the scene examination in the Lower Kaimai Range will be completed.

Bail conditions are also expected to be looked at once more on Friday.

but for this type of offence, NO bail, particularly if the ID of the offender is clearly identified and the likely outcome is JAIL. Bail time served can come off the final sentence, BUT NO BAIL, and even if the offender gets a sentence that does not include JAIL, then put it down to experience AND what the next similar charge will get the offender............
