Butcher's finger reattached

A plastic surgeon has successfully reattached a Tauranga butcher's finger after it was severed by a band saw.

The 19-year-old man was operating the machinery at his work place when his hand accidentally went into the saw blade, which severed a finger on his right hand last Thursday.

He was flown to Waikato Hospital by the Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter where he underwent surgery.

'The plastics team at Waikato Hospital successfully reattached the finger,” says a post on the Waikato Hospital's website.

He was discharged from hospital on Saturday.
