End in sight for $10m build

Construction on the new $10million commercial development complex on the corner of 12th Avenue and Cameron Road is nearing completion.

It is scheduled to open in August, with Westpac Bank taking the head lease within the ground floor.

The relocation of Westpac Bank's area office, business banking centre and a branch to the new site will see 30-to-40 of their staff move into purpose-built premises.

It is the latest in a string of commercial development projects in the Cameron Road commercial precinct.

The bank will take up 647sq/m for its regional business office and its retail branch operations.

The development includes a cafe of up to 200sq/m and four-to-five retail units on the ground floor as well as 700sq/m of first-floor offices. The site also has a forecourt area with car parks to the side and rear.

Veros has managed the project and negotiations with prospective tenants, and director Duarne Lankshear says the newly-completed building will feature a solid commercial and retail mix.

'This site, with nearly 28,000 vehicles travelling past each day, is a very attractive proposition for retail brands looking for a high traffic, high profile site with plenty of parking for customer convenience,” says Duarne.

'The completion of the project is yet another solid sign of the current upsurge in activity in the Tauranga building and commercial property industry.

'This property is another top quality building developed and owned by locally based investment group.

'They are long term investors and recognise that good quality design will attract and support good quality tenants.

'With Westpac corporate office as the anchor tenant, we expect the adjacent tenants to trade well over the long term.”

The building has been designed by FDA Architects of Auckland and built by Hawes Building Solutions.

This further foretells the doom of the CBD. As the commercial heart of the city moves out, so will the retail business suffer
